Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 18, 2026

TerminalBytes is a personal tech blog run by Hemant Kumar. This page describes what data the site collects and how it's used. In plain English: there are no user accounts, no newsletter, and nothing is sold or shared.

What's collected

  • Google Analytics 4: aggregate page views, referrer, country, browser, and approximate session duration. IP addresses are anonymized by GA4 before being recorded. This is used to understand which posts are useful and which ones need work. No personally identifiable information is attached.
  • Cloudflare: the site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which logs standard HTTP request metadata (IP, user agent, response code) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are retained per Cloudflare's standard policy.
  • Search index: the in-site search is client-side (Pagefind). Search queries never leave your browser; they aren't sent to any server.

What's not collected

  • No email addresses (no newsletter, no signup, no contact form)
  • No login or user accounts
  • No third-party trackers beyond Google Analytics
  • No marketing pixels, no remarketing, no ad networks

Cookies

GA4 sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to distinguish unique visitors. The site also stores a single local-storage entry to remember your light/dark theme preference. That's it. There are no third-party advertising cookies.

Affiliate links

Some posts contain Amazon affiliate links. If you click through and buy something, the site earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. See the disclosure page for the full statement.

Your rights

If you're in the EU, UK, or California: you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data the site holds about you. Since the only data collected is aggregate analytics with anonymized IPs, there's typically nothing tied to you specifically. To opt out of GA4 entirely, install the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or use any browser-level tracker blocker.

Children

The site isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

This policy may be updated occasionally. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the current version.
